Toribaka— Chicken Broth Oden @Shimokitazawa, Tokyo

It had been a while since my last visit to Shimokitazawa, and the area around the station has changed quite a bit—it looks much more modern than before.

I headed to the yakitori restaurant to meet up with a friend.

It seems they don’t serve only chicken broth—there’s also the classic kombu (kelp) broth available.

Oden on a chilly day really lifts your spirits; it’s the perfect dish for the colder season.

Tender and melt-in-your-mouth, each bite releases a burst of rich chicken broth.

The flavor is deep and full-bodied, leaving a lingering savory taste.

Daikon and hanpen, having soaked up plenty of the broth, let you experience the stock’s essence directly with every bite.

It makes you crave a hot sake alongside it.

The interior is small but cozy and inviting, the kind of place where you could easily linger for hours. If it were nearby, I’d probably come here regularly.

Thanks for the meal!
