Eat-in MotsuyakiMiyakoya @Yutenji, Tokyo

This is a motsuyaki spot I was told about before — originally known as a takeout-only place.

It’s tucked away in a back alley about two minutes from Yutenji Station, a true local favorite and one of those if you know, you know spots.
A quick search shows they’ve been operating at this same location for over 50 years. That’s seriously old-school.

I was taken here by an acquaintance of a senior I really respect.

The shop closes at 8:00 pm, and there’s a steady stream of customers coming in for takeout.

In the back, there are about four or five simple pipe chairs. They don’t sell alcohol, but you’re allowed to bring your own and eat inside.
It’s the kind of thing you’d probably miss unless someone told you about it.

The variety of offal here is impressive:
shiro (intestines), liver, kashira (cheek), nankotsu (cartilage), gatsu (stomach), fuwa (lung), chire (spleen), tongue, heart, regular meat, teppō (rectum), and jō-shiro (premium intestines).

You can choose between salt or sauce for the seasoning.

Shiro (pork intestines)

Hatsu (heart)

Tan (tongue)

Shiro, liver, and kashira

The offal is incredibly fresh, with a satisfying, crunchy bite.
Honestly, it’s better than what you get at most regular spots.

Great for a quick drink or even as a zero-round stop before heading elsewhere.
A friend who lives nearby says they sometimes grab it as takeout too.

I really love these old-school spots where you can just grab food to go.
If this were in my neighborhood, I’d probably be stopping by on the way home for beer and motsuyaki all the time.

Thanks for the meal!
