Masuyama – Local Tavern @ Funabashi, Chiba

Just 30 minutes by train from Tokyo, I made a quick stop at Funabashi Station.

A few days ago, there was talk that the trains might be stopped due to a typhoon, but it seems to have passed safely.

Now, a peaceful, serene landscape stretches out around me.

First time in Funabashi.

Wandering through the backstreets off the main road, just taking it easy.

Along the way, I spotted a lively spot already buzzing with people in the middle of the day.

Masuyama – Funabashi, Chiba

Shall we start with a super-chilled lemon sour?

As soon as I pushed the door open, the U-shaped counter was packed with customers completely full.

A busy staff member called out,
“We’ll show you your seat, please wait outside for a moment!”

Even while waiting, local-looking customers kept coming in one after another.
This was already looking promising.

After a short while, I heard,
“Alright, you can come in~”

I was guided crab-style behind the seated guests to my spot.

“A lemon sour, please!” I ordered.

I downed the ice-cold lemon sour in one go.

The sharp, fizzy carbonation hit perfectly—ahhh… refreshing as hell!

Shishito peppers

The mild bitterness is addictive, and they really bring out the sweetness of the lemon sour.

Tsukimi Nagaimo Julienne

Break the yolk and wasabi, drizzle a bit of soy sauce, and enjoy.
The cold, crisp texture of the nagaimo slides down smoothly—almost like drinking it.

Crab Gratin

With macaroni mixed in, and a pleasant hint of crab flavor throughout.

Red Pickled Ginger Kakiage

Wow—this one’s visually striking enough to make you exclaim!

The moment it hits your mouth, the fragrant, crispy ginger flavor spreads instantly.
The finely shredded ginger has a crunchy texture, almost like Baby Star ramen snacks.

Thanks to the refreshing tang of the ginger, it’s indulgent yet never heavy or cloying.
Honestly, one of the best bar snacks I’ve had recently.

They seem to have a 2-hour seating limit, and even after we paid, the place kept filling up with new customers nonstop.

If you’re into classic casual Japanese taverns, this spot is definitely a winner lol.

With a reluctant tug at my heart, I headed back toward Tokyo.

Thanks for the amazing meal!
