Thick-Cut Sashimi Set Meal – Umeya Shokudo @ Izu-Atagawa, Shizuoka

Thick-Cut Sashimi Set Meal – Umeya Shokudo @ Izu-Atagawa, Shizuoka

Looking for a local eatery.

It was right around lunchtime, and my stomach was ravenous.

Now… the question is, where should I go?

When it comes to Izu, you can’t skip the seafood.

There are plenty of restaurants popular with tourists, but I was hoping to find a local spot.
Honestly, Tourist-heavy Tabelog reviews aren’t always reliable (just my opinion).

So I went on a Google Maps deep dive around my current location, checking every possible option.

Eventually, I spotted a place that caught my eye—sometimes just the look of the exterior and interior gives you a good feeling.

Before long, I had arrived at my destination.

No doubt about it lol.

The spot is right in front of Izu-Atagawa Station (you can see the station building in the back right of the photo).
Nearby, there’s also the Atagawa Banana & Crocodile Park.

There were about 10 people already waiting.
While there are tourists, I also noticed quite a few locals in the crowd.

We wrote our names on the waiting list and settled in for a bit of a wait.

Ah—by the way, there are only about 4–5 parking spaces, and since it was peak time, there was a line for parking.
There aren’t really any nearby lots, so plan accordingly.

The staff mentioned that serving can take a while, so it’s good to know beforehand.

After about 30 minutes of waiting, we were finally shown to our seats.

The interior has a classic, old-school diner vibe, and the slightly mismatched renovations somehow add to its charm.

It looked pretty busy, and even the customers who were seated before us hadn’t received their orders yet.

Now… what should I go for?

The Atagawa Pork Miso Yakiniku Set other diners were having looked tempting too.
But in the end, there was only one choice for me.

About 20 minutes after being seated, finally:

“Thank you for waiting~”

…a beautifully arranged sashimi platter arrived.

Sashimi Set Meal – 1,250 JPY

Wow… this looks amazing! 😋

It’s hard to capture in photos, but the portion is seriously generous.

The set comes with fresh sashimi, a bowl of rice, small side dishes, and miso soup—a complete and satisfying meal.

The colors look a bit off in the photos—blame the lighting.

The sashimi includes tuna, medai (Japanese butterfish), kanpachi, and inada, all cut extra thick.
Super fresh, with a nice springy, firm texture that’s just irresistible.

I found myself in a blissful loop: tuna → rice → medai → rice → kanpachi → rice… wishing it could go on forever.

Wow, this was really hearty and satisfying.
In Tokyo, a sashimi platter like this alone would probably go for around 1,980 JPY.

Overall, a super satisfying set meal.
I’d definitely like to try some of the other dishes next time.

Thank you for the meal!
