Crisp Winter Air and Outdoor Fun – Nothing Better
The other day, I invited a junior colleague and went fishing for the first time in a while.
When it comes to fishing spots in Tokyo, one of the best-known places is Wakasu Seaside Park in Shin-Kiba.
From Shibuya, it takes about 35 minutes by train, plus a short bus ride—less than an hour in total—making it a perfect distance for a quick escape from the city.
As for my colleague, he actually lives in Shin-Kiba, so for him it was basically just around the corner… lol.

Arriving at Shin-Kiba Station
Back in the days when ageHa(Club) was around, I used to come here all the time.
Since it closed, I haven’t had many reasons to visit—but stepping out of the station instantly brought back those memories…
Stocking Up at the Convenience Store
Right in front of the station, I grabbed some essentials—rice balls, instant noodles, a few beers, and some tea.
There are small shops at the park too, but picking up what you need here at the convenience store is definitely a must.

Heading to the Bus Stop
From Shin-Kiba, you catch a bus to the park—but surprisingly, there are only 1–2 buses per hour, which feels rare for Tokyo.
Of course, I arrived just three minutes after one had already left…
It’s best to plan your timing carefully, though buses can be unpredictable.
In the end, we ended up waiting about 45 minutes. lol
A taxi would have been around ¥1,500–2,000 ($10–13 USD), but with a freshly bought beer in hand and some good conversation, the wait flew by.
So yeah… bus it is.

For Anyone Planning to Visit
Just as a reference—after the bus finally came, it only took about 15 minutes to reach our destination: Wakasu Seaside Park.

Right before the park, there’s also a campground.

Rows of Polycotton Tents
All around the campground, polycotton tents were lined up, with smoke from campfires rising at each site.
Couldn’t help but feel a little jealous…

The Shop
At the little shop inside the park, I rented my usual fishing set.
Rental hours are from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and for ¥2,000 (about $13 USD) you get both a rod and bait.
I showed up past noon this time, but honestly, coming early in the morning would probably give you a much better chance of catching something.

Peaceful This Time of Year
Compared to summer, there are fewer people and much less noise at the park this season.
I set up my chair while listening to the gentle sound of the waves—and just like that, everything was ready.

From Beer to Something Hot
I started off with a beer, then switched to something hot.
Since your body starts to get cold, having a way to boil water is definitely a plus.

The Classic Cup Noodles
I don’t usually eat these at home, but somehow when I’m outdoors, I just crave them.
They really hit the spot and warm you right up…

Sunlight Dancing on the Water
The ripples sparkled in the sunlight.
Perfect moment to have some music playing from a portable speaker…

Sunglasses Are a Must

Catch of the Day?
Me? Nah, I came here for the location and the vibe… (yeah, yeah, I know, lol).
I heard that sardines were plentiful near the far end of the pier.
It’s a bit crowded there, but if you’re serious about fishing, that’s probably the better spot.

What a Stunning Sunset!

What to Wear and Bring
At this time of year, HeatTech, a hoodie, and a down jacket are essential.
It’s also a good idea to pack leggings and a long-sleeve T-shirt in your backpack, and disposable hand warmers are a nice bonus.
Rather than going hands-free, I recommend bringing a backpack or bag so you can easily add or remove layers.
You can enjoy this spot just as easily for a casual day trip by train, without the hassle of a full camping setup.
